Calcium carbide, also known as calcium acetylide, is a chemical compound with the chemical formula of CaC₂. Its main use industrially is in the production of acetylene and calcium cyanamide.
Calcium Carbide is a grayish-black lump or crystalline (sand- like) powder with a garlic-like odor. It is used to generate Acetylene gas, as a reducing agent, and in steel manufacturing and metal cutting.
It is used in the production of calcium hydroxide and acetylene.
